Book Jackets for the traditional tales by Hans Anderson- The Six Swans and The Little Mermaid.

The Little Mermaid. For this book cover I wanted to look at Inuit Art. I had seen depictions of mermaids drawn in this style before and was drawn to the simple forms and shapes. For the cover of the little mermaid I wanted to reclaim the story from the popular and dominant take on it by disney.

The Six Swans.

For this book cover I wanted to be informed by traditional folk art, not to re-create it but just as an influence. I have owned a copy of the book below for many years and have always loved the cover illustration. I'm also keen to try and expand my range of colour schemes with this project.
